Ocala weather report July 2010

The summer of 2010 has been unusually hot and wet. Summer in Ocala is always hot and wet but this year is off to a real bang. From watching the weather I think we might also have a big hurricane season this year. It appears the water in the Gulf is 3 or 4 degrees above normal. With hurricanes it’s all about feeding off the warm water.

Weather in July here in Ocala is hot. It is 90 to 95 every day but never much more. There is plenty of humidity in the air. It doesn’t rain every afternoon but it has rained this year about 4 days out of 7.

I have an entire page on my web site devoted to Ocala Weather. Check it out and remember no matter how hot it gets in the summer here in Florida it’s a small price to pay for no winter.

It’s June here in Ocala and it’s hot and humid. After all this is Florida. Every day will be in the low 90’s and real humid. When I first moved to Ocala some one told me that after a year or two my blood would thin out and I’d get used to the heat. Needless to say I thought that person was full of it. Much to my surprise it’s true. I moved here from Maine where it seldom got above 80 and now I’m cold when it goes below 70!

The summer here in Ocala lasts from mid May to about the end of October. That means around 90 during the day and the 70’s at night and humid.

You have to realize that every where in Florida is air conditioned, your house, your car, every store and your job. It’s just like every where you go up north in the winter is heated.

The summer heat and humidity is a very small price to pay for no winter.

April was cooler than normal but the first week of May has been unseasonably hot! I look forward to the first 3 weeks of May as still dry and in the high 80’s. So far this month we have been above 90 and the humidity is here early. I like to finish up my yard work by the end of May and sit by the pool for the rest of the summer.

May should be in the high 80’s with the nights in the mid 60’s. That the average any way.

After a freezing winter and an unusually cool March spring has finally sprung here in Ocala.  March didn’t really warm up until the last week of the month. The previous three weeks of March were unseasonably cool.

April in the Ocala area is one of the best months. There is no humidity and the temperatures are in the low 80.s. The grass which tends to go dormant and turns brown for the winter is greening up and the Azalea bushes are in bloom. If you’re up north and April is cold and wet or worse yet an actual winter month then you need to move to Ocala.

Ocala Florida weather March 2010

The winter of 09/10 will be one of the coldest on record here in Ocala. The weather guy on the TV station I watch says it is one of the 5 coldest since they started keeping records in the 1800’s. It seems every day has been 10 to 15 degrees below normal. Winters in Ocala are usually a great time of year with temperatures in the low 70’s. This year the low 60’s were the norm.

March is the beginning of spring here in Ocala, although this year is off to a slow start. Temperatures in March should be in the mid to high 70’s, the grass should green up and the azaleas should start to bloom.

Ocala Florida weather February 2010

February in Ocala is the last month of our winter. By the first of March things will start warming up, the grass will start to green up and the azaleas will bloom.

Temperatures in February should be in the low 70’s during the days and the mid 40’s at night. Of course January should have been like that too.

Hopefully February will be a more normal winter month than January. The first 10 days of the new year were extremely cold. Every night was at or below freezing which is unheard of here in Ocala. Now we do get frosts and freezes in Ocala but only 3 or 4 times a winter. Never 10 days in a row. A life long resident told me that he has never seen such a cold stretch in his 45 years living in Marion County. In addition to the cold weather it has been really rainy too. This is supposed to be the dry season where it doesn’t rain for weeks on end. It has rained so much I’ve had to lower the water in my pool several times.

Ocala weather for January 2010

January 2010 weather has started off the new year with freezing temperatures. It’s not unusual here in Ocala to get a hard freeze. In fact we can get 4 or 5 a year. However this year we have had an entire week of temperatures where the days stay in the low 50’s and the night time temps hover around freezing. From what I’ve seen on the TV weather there is a high over Texas and a low south of New England that combined is some how funneling cold air down to Florida that belongs much further to the north.

Any way January temps should be around 70 with night time temps down to around the mid 40’s. See my Ocala Weather guide on my web site for a chart of highs and lows for every month of the year.

Winter in Ocala only lasts about 8 weeks. By the first of March it’s spring here in Ocala.

This is my 5th winter here in Ocala. I moved here from Maine where it gets seriously cold. I was worried about the summer heat, which is now no problem. Now I don’t like it when the temperature gets much below 70. People are very adaptable.

Ocala Florida weather December 2009

The weather in Ocala Florida during the winter revolves around cold fronts. Most of the time the temperatures will be in the low to mid 70’s. Then along comes a cold front and the temps drop to the 60’s during the day. In the evenings after a cold front Ocala can get the occasional frost or even a lite freeze. We get several frosts a year which is why we have different plant material than you find further south in Florida.

Ocala Florida Weather Update November 2009

The temperatures are finally returning to normal after an exceptionally hot October. October temperatures were in the mid ti high 80’s instead of the lower 80’s all month. It was also pretty humid most days, more like September than October.

November should be in the 70’s during the day and the 50’s at night with no humidity. Hopefully this will turn out to be true. I think October through the end of December is a great time of year. You don’t need AC or heat and no humidity. In Ocala we look forward to the winter months.

I have a new Ocala Weather page on my web site with average temperatures and rain fall for all 12 months.

Ocala FL Weather October 2009

So far this month the weather here in Ocala has been unseasonably hot.  The day time temperatures should be in the mid to high 80’s but we have been in the 90’s almost all month. Several days have actually recorded record highs for the date.  It  has also been unusually humid for October, more like August.

October should be the start of the dry season. It should be in the mid 80’s during the day and around 60 at night. Most of the humidity should be just about gone too.

The beginning of winter and the dry season is my favorite time of year. You can leave the doors and windows open and not pay for the AC. It’s a great time to do projects in the yard too.
