An idea of what Ocala Florida’s weather is like from month to month

Ocala Florida weather report for November 2017

October was extra warm or so it seemed. I was able to use my pool on October 15 which is really late for me. I have to admit I like the water warm, at least 80 and I don’t have a pool heater. October starts warm as in 90 and gradually cools down to the low to mid 80’s.

November is a little like early September where I grew up in Massachusetts. It is dry, the humidity has gone and in the 80’s during the day and 60’s at night. Of course the day time temperatures will gradually cool as the month goes on but only down to the 70’s.

If you don’t look forward to the winter then move to Ocala. The heat and humidity of our summers are a small price to pay for sunshine and the 70’s all winter long.

Ocala Florida weather report October 2017

Hurricane Irma hit Ocala but there wasn’t anything like the damage you may have seen in South Florida. As she came over land the winds diminished and dry air from the west tore apart the back of the rotation weakening the storm by the time it got here. At my house near SR 200 and the retirement communities there was very little damage just some broken tree branches. Marion County is huge as big as Rhode Island so there was damage in other areas. Some people in rural areas were without power for a week. There was flooding in some areas as well.

October is a warm summer like month here. Temperatures have begun to go down but down to the mid 80’s from summer times 90’s. As the month goes on the humidity will go away and stay away until next May.

Ocala Florida weather report August 2017

August was a typical summer month nothing interesting to report. It was hot and humid and rained a lot. You don’t even need to watch the weather report. Every day is hot and humid with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

September is the height of hurricane season. As I write this hurricane Irma is heading towards Florida. I moved to Ocala in June 2004 just in time for the 4 hurricanes that hit that year. In 2004 there were tropical force winds that blew down trees and a lot of rain. Where I live near but not in the retirement communities in SW Ocala I didn’t even loose my power. Hurricane season last until the end of October.

Irma Update 9/13/17   Hurricane Irma hit the Ocala area a little after mid night Monday. It had weakened since hitting south Florida earlier. Going over land and dry air that was sucked down from the mid west tore the back side of Irma apart taking it from a full circle shape to a half to 3/4 circle. Ocala saw a lot of trees down, roof damage, some flooding and numerous power outages but not the destruction you may have saw in the Keys or Marco Island. As of today Wednesday it is still are to find gas for your car. Power outages are sporadic. I have power but the next subdivision is out and I can see those houses from my front lawn. I escaped without losing my power, internet or cell. Much to my surprise none of my trees fell over. I have a lot of Oaks and they are notorious for falling over when the soil gets saturated by tropical rains.

July was really wet. In some parts of Central Florida it was record setting rain. The Ocala Marion County area is really huge, as big as Rhode Island, so rain fall varied. At my house in the SW I had to drain my pool 3 or 4 times to keep it from over flowing.

August is the beginning of hurricane season. The ocean temperatures have heated up enough by then to fuel hurricanes. Peak of the season is September 11 according to the weather lady I watched on TV yesterday. The season ends by early November.

Ocala is probably the least likely city in Florida to get hit by a hurricane. That is reflected by much lower property insurance costs than south Florida or along the coasts. The closest one ever came was in the 1968 when Gladys  crossed the state.

Ocala Florida weather report July 2017

After a severe drought all winter and spring June was very wet with afternoon thunderstorms most days. That is a good thing it is the beginning of the wet season after all and we need to make up for the lack of rain earlier this year.

I could predict the weather in July by just saying it will be in the low 90’s with a 40% chance of afternoon thunderstorms every day, the humidity will be high and when you wake up in the morning it will be in the high 70’s.

The dry season was the driest in 103 years according to the weather I watch on local TV. I know where I live in SW Ocala we got very little rain all winter and all spring. Just this past week, the first week of June we are beginning to see the afternoon thunderstorms.

June is the beginning of our wet season. It is already humid with temps in the high 80’s and low 90’s with night time temps in the 70’s. It will stay like this until mid October. As I like to say the hot humid summers are a small price to pay for no snow or ice ever.

Ocala Florida Weather May 2017

As always I like to start my weather report by looking back to the previous month and see what actually happened. April was unusually hot and dry. Many if not most days were 5-10 degree above average. We are having serious drought conditions due to almost no rain in the month.

May is the last month of spring here in Ocala. Actually it begins to get hot and humid mid month although this year we are a month ahead of schedule. In May we should gradually go from the low 80’s to about 90 by months end with increasing humidity.

Ocala Florida weather report April 2017

March was an odd month. Early March was cooler than most of February. It has been very dry even drier than normal during our dry season. There is a higher risk than normal of forest fires this spring. Most fires are in rural areas and not near the retirement communities I work in.

April is a fantastic month in Florida. Days are in the low 80’s. It is sunny almost every day and there is no humidity. Nights are cool in the 60’s and great for sleeping with the windows open. Most days I might turn on my AC for a few hours in the afternoon and then turn it off after dark when it cools down.

If April isn’t a great month where you live then email me or use my Ocala Dream Home Finder and I’ll show you what you can buy for a house here in Ocala.

February was much warmer then normal. Many days were close to 80. We didn’t have a decent frost this year where I live in the SW area. March is the beginning of spring here. The grass is getting green and the azaleas are beginning to bloom.

If you are living with snow and ice while I’m growing orchids on my Lanai you should join me living here in Ocala. Hoses are still very reasonable, taxes and living expenses are low and the weather is great.

Ocala weather for January 2017 was crazy warm. Most days were in the high 70’s with several touching 80. That is around 10 degrees above normal. It was also very dry with little rain and no humidity.

February temperatures are usually in the low 70’s. Just after a cold front goes through they can dip as low as the high 50’s for a couple of days. February is the last month of winter here in Ocala. By the last week of the month things begin to start warming up. March is spring here !
