Swimming pools in Ocala 55+ communities

dog laying next to swimming pool

I often get buyers who are looking for a pool home in a 55+ retirement community.  There are very few homes with private pools in 55+ communities. Retirement communities all have clubhouses with a community pool. Some have outdoor and indoor pools. Others like Oak Run have several pools. If you prefer a private pool of your own then you should be looking in the non 55+ communities because 99% of 55+ listings do not have private pools.

Non 55+ communities usually don’t have a clubhouse and activities but there are plenty of retired residents every where here in Ocala. I live in a non 55+ community and when I go to my HOA meetings I’m one of the younger residents and I’m 56!

Hi Joe, We are looking to relocate after the sale of our home. We would love to recapture our present lifestyle as closely as possible. Dennis’ brother lives in Chandler Hills, so he would like to be close. We like our privacy, area for Fruit trees and gardening, a pool to exercise in, but we also would like to take advantage of taking classes together.

      Hi

There are 55+ pool homes in the Ocala just not a lot of them. Most are in the higher price ranges but your budget of up to $300K covers most of them. You can get to beaches on the Gulf in around 45 minutes and Daytona in about an hour and one half. The deal killer is that Ocala is no where near FT Myers, We are about 3 1/2 hours north.

Hi, Joe, really enjoy your site, very comprehensive. My question is, do any of the 55+ communities in Ocala have an indoor “free swim” or walking pool? In other words, not a lap pool, but an indoor pool where you can walk, stretch or just paddle around if you prefer? Or a lap pool with a separate area like this? As far as I can tell, maybe Oak Run or Spruce Creek Country Club? Or possibly Ocala Palms? Not interested in OTOW. Thanks.

I’m not sure what you mean by a walking pool but the following have indoor pools.
      On Top of the World
Candler Hills you can use the OTOW indoorpool
Indigo East you can pay an additional fee to use the OTOW indoor pool
      Oak Run
      Ocala Palms
      Del Webb Stone Creek
      Spruce Creek CC

Thank you. That helps me narrow it to Oak Run, Ocala Palms and Spruce Creek CC. A “walking pool” is not a lap pool, and most of it is shallow enough to allow people to walk (usually in a clockwise or counter clockwise direction) and exercise while immersed in the water. Sometimes a lap pool will have an area sectioned off for this purpose. It’s great for older folks who want to exercise in the water on their own without having to do laps or attend a formal water exercise session.

Hi that is good to know. I hadn’t heard that one before.

Always happy to set up A Listing Portal for people to see homes online. It is a big step beyond what you can do on Realtor.com ect.

I saw a shot of the one of the indoor swimming pools at Oak Run in an online video. It looks as if they have that kind of pool. It’s a big plus for people with mobility issues, arthritis, etc., but anyone can benefit. It also provides an opportunity to socialize and get to know other residents on an informal basis.

I didn’t know that there can be houses with pools for 55 and older communities. My grandfather loves swimming even he’s more than fifty-five years old already and wants to have a residence with a pool. My mom suggested living in a 55 and older community and shared this article with him.

Yes there are some pool homes in 55+ communities. Not a lot because you are already paying HOA fees for a community pool.

Is there actually a covenant or rule against private pools, or do nobody just do them? We want to be able to just go out every evening and have a drink by the pool and not hassle with getting in a car, fighting with a lot of other people over deck chairs, etc. Could we install one in a 55+? For that matter, why do we care about being in a 55~ community? What’s the benefit? Thanks!

No there are no rules about putting in a private pool. Access to your backyard can be limited especially if your neighbor insists the equipment doesn’t go on his lawn. Some houses are very close together like 15 feet but that depends on the community. Some older communities are some what larger lots. Pools are not popular in 55+’s because you are already paying for a community pool.

The benefits of a 55+ is no kids, being around people your own age if you want to find friends, community activities organized by the HOA. Not 55+ are just houses on streets, usually not gated with no community amenities.
