Summerglen Ocala Florida

Summerglen is a 55+ retirement community with a very nice golf course just south of Ocala.  All homes are 2004 and newer. Homes in Summerglen are all concrete block with stucco and range in size from a little under 1500 sq ft of living area to a little over 2500 sq ft. HOA fees include maintenance of the common areas, clubhouse and amenities, trash pickup, guard at the gate and lawn mowing but not fertilizing. Summerglen is an active 55+ community with a great clubhouse, heated beach entry pool, fitness center, library, crafts, dog park, softball field, basketball court and a lot more. Two things that Summerglen offers that most other communities don’t have are lawn mowing and free RV parking, both are extra costs elsewhere. Golf is an extra fee. There is also a nice restaurant, Moreno’s Grill located next to the clubhouse. As in any community that has lawn care you cannot fence your yard.

Update 6/14 HOA fees are still at $125- month which includes lawn mowing. The developer has turned over the community to the HOA. I am surprised that they can continue with such low HOA fees.

Update 3/15 HOA fees have increased to $130- month. Still a bargain seeing considering the lawn mowing.

Update 3/16 HOA fees remain at $130- month. The best deal in our area !

Update 1/30/17 HOA fees have increased to $150- month. This still includes lawn mowing and trimming but not pruning, lawn water or fertilizer. You do get a $20- month credit at the restaurant though.

Update 12/2/17 HOA fees are $156- month and still includes lawn mowing and trimming but not pruning, lawn water or fertilizer. You do get a $20- month credit at the restaurant though. Best HOA fee deal in town !

Update 12/10/2018 HOA fees have gone up to $206- month. In addition to mowing and edging the yard you now also get cable TV, Spectrum Bronze Tier 1 and super fast 100 mbps internet. A $20- month voucher to the restaurant is also included. You won’t get more for your HOA $ than Summerglen.

Update 1/20/2020 HOA for 2020 is $252.00 and they no longer offer a monthly voucher for the restaurant. The restaurant on premises is now operated my Turnpike Mike’s and the people seem happy with it..Happy Hour daily etc..The lawn service is also new and they are doing a great job.The Golf Course is in very good shape and that was taken over a couple of months ago..

Update 3/4/2021 HOA fees remain the same at $252- month

It is hard to respond to requests that have no price range or sq ft of living area. There are currently 45 active listings in Summerglen from 1377 sq ft to 2587 sq ft, a pretty large range.

If you’re read my blog then that’s all the info that I have. There may be literature available from the builder regarding new homes but not resales. good morning Joe,

thank you for providing so much information on your web site.I found it very informative. My husband and I will be retiring in 2 years. We want to relocate to a warmer more affordable area. We are starting to look at different areas now. We are doing our research now because as we all know time goes quickly.
Would you please give us a sample listing of some of the areas you listed on your web site? we are interested in 3 bedrooms/ 2 bath single family home. with a 2 car garage. My husband is an avid golfer so proximity to a golf course would b nice. We prefer not to go over $250,000.

There are no CDD fees in Summerglen. Just normal utility bills and taxes. Golf is not included in the HOA fee. HOA fees that include lawn mowing in Summerglen are exceptionally low in our area.

    Hi Joe,

Found your blog and it is a wealth of information. My husband and I are looking to retire/relocate to th Ocala area in 2020, but since we are in Southern California now, the majority of our searching is being done online. Can you add us to your mailing list? We are looking for 1250-1500 sq ft, 2 beds/2 baths. Not interested in an eat I kitchen AND dining room. Prefer open concept/modern homes. Budget is ~$150K understanding that by the time we are ready to pull the trigger, the price might be higher.
    Thanks in advance.

      Hello
Homes with open concept floor plans here started coming out in the mid 2000’s. As time went on the newer the house the more open. Today brand new homes often have a kitchen against one wall with a giant island opening right into the main living area.

In our current market homes under $150K are from the 90’s and even 80’s. They are not open floor plans and most need renovating. There are no homes under $150K in Summerglen.

Looking at 55 plus communities in area ( I just started looking at Ocala and have never visited)
Loved Solivita in Orlando when I visited but HOA fees were high along with the bound which drove the taxes up
Neighborhood important need modern amenities along with a location that is close to shopping
    Plan to visit area soon
Price range up to low 200,s
2 bedroom with den or larger
    Outside area important
Liked prices and value in Summer glen taxes seemed high this will be my primary residence

Again I plan on visiting but would like more information on where you would recommend neighborhood wise so I can narrow down my search And plan my visit
    Thanks
    Nancy

Summerglen has good home prices and a great value for your HOA $. It is about a 15 minute drive to shopping on SR 200. Taxes are based on the home’s value. High to you might be low to someone from another part of the country. There are no bonds in Summerglen. I have never been to Solivita but I believe it is much much larger than Summerglen. I will contact you direct

Hi, my wife and I are starting our search for a retirement home in a couple weeks in your area (we are in PA.)and planning on a move within 2 years. I’ve read your blog and have learned a lot. My one question and I know it’s rare, but do any HOAs allow backyard fences? We have two larger dogs that we prefer not to have at dog parks. Thanks Jeff

    • Joe Dallorso says:

Some HOA’s allow fences. Summerglen does not because they mow your lawn and fences slow the crew down and add a lot of extra trimming.
Stone Creek, Candler Hills, Indigo East, JB Ranch, Trilogy Ocala Preserve, Ocala Palms, Spruce Creek Preserve, Cherry Wood and Palm Cay all allow fences.

Started looking to move by 04/2020. Like Summerglen, but noticed many homes for sale on same street? Also please advise golf membership fee. Will contact you for appointment in October of this year to look at homes. We are looking at Timber Pines too.

Don’t know why there are a lot of homes for sale on the same street other than coincidence or there are some pretty long streets.

Don’t know Timber Pines it’s not in my area.

My golf prices for Summerglen are outdated. It might be best to call them directly. In general I’m told unless you play 4 times a week or more you’re just as well off playing by the round as getting a membership. (352) 307-1766

Happy to help. Call or email me direct any time

I just came across this community in the Ocala area and would love to see some of the homes for sale. I now live in Tampa Palms (moved from NJ 2 years ago). I liked On Top Of The World until the Ocala Credit Union told me they would not finance homes in there (due to land lease), and there is a mandatory 20% deposit which they don’t tell you about until you get down the road a bit in investigating properties. Can you advise of your availability to look at homes? I have mortgage approval from at least 2 lenders. Many thanks

    Hi Joe,
we are starting our search to relocate tp Florida. We currently live in Monmouth County in a townhome community. We have a 2 level plus basement home and looking to downsize, The Summerglenn subdivision is very interesting, Only comments from friends have been, sinkholes, Chinese wallboard and CPVC or Polybutylene pipes.
We expect to use the proceeds from our townhouse for purchase.
    Many thanks.

      Hi
There are sink holes all over this area. It’s like getting hit by lightning. In my 14 years in real estate I have never seen Chinese wallboard and CPVC or Polybutylene pipes in the Ocala area.
