Hardwood Trails is a 55 plus retirement community located in SW Ocala Florida. Hardwood Trails has several issues as out lined in a recent Star Banner article regarding problems between residents and the developer. For example there is a very nice community center but the pool isn’t finished. This is also a gated community but the gate doesn’t work. Despite these issues I really like Hardwood Trails for the long term. Hardwood Trails is in a great location just minutes from all the shopping, restaurants and health care offered in the SR 200, SW corridor. This is also one of the few subdivisions where the developer left all the trees. Home prices are in the mid to high $100′s. HOA fees are about $90- per month for maintaining the common areas, the clubhouse, trash and basic cable.

Does Hardwood Trails have block and stucco homes, these are all that we’re interested in. The places we are interested in are 55 or over retirement communities, with clubhouses, and pools, in the Ocala area. Low HOA fees, would be nice, and what would be covered under these fees, would be helpful. Doing research now, but not planning on moving for at least a year or more.

You have to start doing your home work early. Generally all 55+ communities have clubhouses & pools. They do vary quite a bit from sort of run down to like a resort. HOA fees vary from $75- month to over $200- + month. HOA fees generally cover maintaining the clubhouse, pool & common areas, a gated entrance if there is one, trash pick up twice a week & cable TV which is usually extremely basic. You maintain the home just like any private home. These are not condo’s.
